Garden Route reaping benefits of international exposure

The Garden Route is reaping the benefits of increased exposure to the tourist markets with the region back in the sights of top end home buyers and foreign property investors.

Ling Dobson of Pam Golding Properties says the Garden Route has been globally acknowledged as one of the most scenic stretches of road in the world.

The area's recently been ranked sixth in the top 10 coastal drives in an online survey by international travel web site, virtualtourist.com.

Dobson says they've seen an interesting and good surge in sales since Christmas, with international buyers returning to the fore.

"I think the reality is that the Garden Route is holiday accommodation and not always primary accommodation, even though we are seeing a lot of semi-grating from the cities where people are actually moving in and then commuting to the cities," she said.

"So, we struggled, the last five years have been very, very tough, but this last season has been the most awesome season in the Garden Route. Everyone, you speak from shop owners to restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, everyone has reported a wonderful season," Dobson added.
