Police at Noupoort are monitoring the situation after service delivery protests broke out at the town on Monday.
Police Warrant Officer Maritze Stander says isolated groups of youths appear to be behind the action.
She said they've been burning tyres and throwing stones at passing motorists.
Stander said the situation is calm at the moment and appealed to motorists to proceed with caution while driving on the N9 national road on both sides of Nouport.
She said no arrests had been made yet and that police would be studying video footage of the protests before deciding whether or not to open a case of public violence.
