Serial rapist sentenced in Mdantsane for case dating back to 2012

A serial rapist from Mdantsane will spend another 20-years behind bars for raping a teenager in Kei Mouth more than nine years ago.

Anelisa Ngcakani of the NPA says 34-year old Yandisa Mboteni had just completed a 10-year-sentence for rape when he attacked his victim at knifepoint in December of 2012.

She says the victim, who is now 27, was raped in front of her mother and her friend who helplessly witnessed the ordeal.

According to the NPA, Mboteni was arrested and released on bail.

He then raped another woman before being arrested and sentenced to 15-years imprisonment for that crime in 2019.

Mboteni was sentenced to 20-years in the Mdantsane Regional Court on Wednesday for the rape in Kei Mouth.

Ngcakani says there were several reasons why it took nine years for Mboteni to be sentenced including linking him to the crimes through DNA results.

She says the Kei Mouth matter also dragged on as it was overseen by no less than three prosecutors over the years.

Khotso Seitlheko, the prosecutor who ultimately secured Mboteni’s conviction and sentence, argued that he should be seen as a serial rapist and that he had shown no remorse throughout the trial.
