Cradock police have arrested a 22 year-old man and linked him to the rape of five woman at the Karoo town of Hofmeyer.
Police captain Stefanie Smith says the crimes were committed from January last year and the victims are between the ages of 41 and 90.
She says the suspect was arrested after he broke into a dwelling in Hofmeyr and left behind evidence linking him to the crime scene.
He was released due to insufficient evidence and the case was then referred to the Family Violence, Sexual Offences and Child Protection Unit.
Captain Smith says that after weeks of tireless investigation by Constable M Bouwer and Warrant Officer Kula the suspect was re-arrested after being linked to the five rape cases in Hofmeyer.
