Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masuale, and his executive are in Nelson Mandela Bay on Wednesday on a two day outreach programme engaging communities.
The visit forms part of the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children, which will start on Thursday.
The delegation, including Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality officials, visited households this afternoon in Zwide, Kwazakhele and Soweto on Sea, engaging with survivors of gender based violence.
Director General, Mahlubandile Qwase, says the purpose is to look at service delivery challenges facing the metro.
"To visit the various metro's and district municipalities, engaging communities to find service delivery challenges and to ensure that they are resolved. Of course working very closely with the municipality and also looking at what are the challenges facing the municipalities and the kind of support that can be offered by the provincial government."
Qwasa says housing and informal settlements are some of the major issue for the metro and are likely to be discussed at a closed session this afternoon between the mayoral committee and the executive council of the premier.
"Issue of teacher shortages, especially for maths and science which is a major challenge for the whole country. Housing is a major challenge as well as the ability of departments to pay on timer." says Qwasa.
