A serial abuser who violently terrorised a girlfriend and former wife, and eventually murdered a third partner, has been jailed for life in the High Court sitting in George.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Grant Robertson’s reign of terror against women came to an end when he was jailed on Wednesday for the murder of Rencia Jafta in July 2019.
NPA spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalilsa, said he was arrested in Conville in George after Jafta’s body was found under his bed by police after her father reported her missing.
Robertson was convicted in March on charges of murder, rape, and assault.
He was also convicted on additional charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and three counts of violating a protection order relating to a former wife and girlfriend.
Ntabazalila said he had a long history of violence and abuse towards a woman, with whom he had two children during a tumultuous eight-year relationship.
He said Robertson later married another woman in 2017, but the relationship was also characterised by abuse and violence, ending in him once more breaching a protection order.
Ntabazalila said the NPA welcomed the sentence, adding that sentencing Judge Deidre Kusevitsky described the crimes against the deceased as “brutal, violent and sadistic.”
