A security officer from Despatch was shot and killed while on duty on Sunday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says the 47-year-old Arnold Retief was parked at a filling station in Main Street, presumably to grab something to eat when unknown gunmen approached him.
He says Retief was killed on the spot and his gun and 36 rounds of ammo were stolen.
Captain Beetge says the motive, at this point, was to steal the firearm.
Retief, who works for Topflight Security Services died at the scene.
The company took to social media on Monday, saying that no arrests would ever bring back the young officer's life.
A case of murder is under investigation.
