Security cameras help identify PE murder suspects

Port Elizabeth police have arrested two suspects for the murder of a 34-year-old man from Zwide after security cameras helped to identify the perpetrators.

Police spokesperson, Captain Andre’ Beetge, said the body of Bongani Hina was found in bushes in the Coega area on Friday.

He was reported missing after leaving home on Monday to go to Motherwell and never returned.  His Colt bakkie, with bloodstains inside, was found in bushes behind Zwide Primary School.

Beetge said police “tested the vehicle’s registration plates against security cameras” across the Metro and a photo taken on Monday showed two men in the stolen vehicle.

A family member identified them and they were taken in for questioning at Kwazakhele police station on Friday.

He said the two “admitted to killing" Hina and took police to the place where they left his body.

Motherwell cluster commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, applauded the “level of co-operation between the police and the Metro Search and Rescue teams.

The suspects will appear in court on Monday.
