Second major drugs bust in Central Karoo in a week!

Police members from Leeu-Gamka and Beaufort West have apprehended a 32-year-old suspect in connection with a consignment of dagga with a street value R532 000.

Captain Malcolm Pojie says the members acted on information and arrested the suspect at around 04h00 on Monday when they pulled his Toyota Quantum and Trailer over on the N-1 near the Leeu-Gamka Police station.

They found 380kg of dagga, believed to emanate from the Eastern Cape,  that was concealed in 43 bags in the trailer

The 32-year-old driver was arrested on the spot and was due to appear in the Prince Albert magistrates' court the same day, still.

This is the second major drugs bust within a week in the Central Karoo area.

On Tuesday last week,  a 33-year-old man was found in possession of R184 000 worth of Tik on the N12 en-route to Beaufort West.

A Nigerian national is currently in police custody and scheduled to appear in the Beaufort West magistrates' court on Wednesday for a bail application.
