The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have "rescued" a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted and forced into marrying a 35-year-old man.
Spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Ngcakani, said she was allegedly abducted last Thursday by two men while visiting a person in the Mjika Administrative Area in Tsolo.
She said a member of the local community reported the alleged abduction to police on Monday and the Hawks were notified.
The girl was "rescued" on the same day and taken to an undisclosed place of safety.
"No arrests have been made as yet, however, the investigation is continuing and arrests are expected to be made in due course," Captain Ngcakani said.
This is the second such case reported in the Eastern Cape this week after police on Tuesday "rescued" a 16-year-old from an arranged marriage in Ngcobo.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said the young woman was also taken to a place of safety.
