Eastern Cape police have re-arrested two of the twelve trial awaiting prisoners who escaped from police custody in KwaBacha (formerly Mount Frere) last week.
The inmates escaped through a hole in the wall during the early hours of Thursday.
Colonel Pricilla Naidu says the first suspect, who was detained on a theft charge, was arrested on Friday at his house in Nkungwini location near Mount Frere.
She says the second escapee, held for burglary, was arrested later on the same day in Bislan location.
Naidu says one of the escapees is wanted for rape, one for theft, and one for burglary while nine others were in custody on charges of aggravated robbery.
She says an internal probe will be conducted on how the prisoners managed to escape and photographs will be circulated soon.
Task teams are still on the hunt for the remaining escapees.
