A 29-year-old Easern Cape policeman is recovering after being shot in the lower body in Qumbu this week.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni, identified him as Mpendulo Mbukwe.
He told Algoa FM News that Mbukwe was with a colleague on patrol on Wednesday when they were called out to a burglary at a local funiture store.
Tonjeni says they came under fire from two suspects and Mbukwe was wounded.
He is in a stable condition in hospital while his colleague escaped unharmed.
Mbukwe is the second Eastern Cape policeman to be shot this week.
On Tuesday, 55-year-old Mlungiseleli Dukuza, was killed in the line of duty when he and colleagues responded to a burglary in Libode.
