The South African Police Service says the search for a spear fisherman who was reported missing on the beachfront on Wednesday has been called off.
Police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, says any search will only resume if an official missing person's report is filed with the police.
He says an extensive search on Wednesday yielded nothing.
"We have actually searched areas which is virtually impossible for the spear fisherman to reach in that specific period of time. We found nothing with the help of the NSRI and also the public and police divers. We could not retrieve anything that indicated that a spear fisherman has actually drowned in the area. We also took the rip tide and currents in considerations" Jarvis said.
