Gqeberha police discovered the body of Romario Jordan Williams at the Dam in Van der Kemp's Kloof on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu confirmed that members of the K9 search and rescue unit found the 9-year-old's body in the dam.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Naidu, the boy went to the dam with his friends to pick reeds on Thursday afternoon at around 2pm.
"There he met other friends and left with them. His friends went back to his mother and informed her.
"Last night (Friday) his clothing was found hanging on a tree.
"This morning (Saturday) the K9 search and rescue found his body in the dam," said Naidu.
An inquest docket has been opened.
