East London police are searching for the parents of a baby boy who was found by accident by a gardener searching for his employer's lost pet.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Hazel Mqala, said the baby was found on Wednesday in the Gonubie area.
"A Gonubie community member lost her cat had asked her gardener to look for it in the bushes close to her house. While the gardener was looking for the cat he heard a baby crying and found a new born baby boy wrapped in a refuse plastic bag with his receiving blanket," she said.
Mqala said the gardener ran back to the house to inform his employer who called authorities.
She said police, paramedics and municipal officials responded and the baby was taken to Frere Hospital to be examined.
"An inquiry has been opened at Gonubie police," Mqala said.
