President Jacob Zuma will visit the communities along the Garden Route on Thursday which have been hardest hit by the devastating fires.
The Presidency said Zuma had dispatched humanitarian and other support to all the affected areas, especially the poor communities.
“The unprecedented devastation was visited on the residents of the Western Cape as a result of the severe weather and heavy storms that preceded the fires,” the Presidency said.
“Early last week, the President dispatched humanitarian and other support to all the affected areas, especially the poor communities, which was coordinated through the NATJOC Disaster Management, working with the Western Cape Provincial Government and Provincial Disaster Management teams,” said Presidential spokesperson, Dr Bongani Ngqulunga.
“President Zuma will be accompanied by a number of Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers whose departments have already begun with relief and assistance services to the affected communities,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Western Cape government said it would “direct R75 million towards fire-ravaged Knysna, as well as other areas damaged by last week’s Cape storm”.
The decision was made during a special cabinet meeting in Knysna, chaired by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille.
