The search is expected to continue this morning for an American teenager who went missing in the surf south West of Coffee Bay on the Transkei Wild Coast on Sunday.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says the 19-year-old was a student at the University of Cape Town.
The unnamed teenager was with six other students on Spring vacation who went for a late night swim on Sunday night.
Lambinon says it appears that the student got into difficulty in the surf line during a low-tide Spring tide and disappeared.
The NSRI were alerted at around 4am yesterday morning, but due to the inaccessible terrain the first respondents were only able to reach the area at around 10 o'clock yesterday morning.
Lambinon says adverse weather conditions also hampered an aerial search, which, weather permitting, will be conducted on Tuesday.
