Probe underway into Eastern Cape bus smash

A forensic investigation is underway into this weekend's horror bus accident in the Eastern Cape in which 36 people were killed.

The accident happened early on Saturday morning when the bus plunged into a dry river bed near the Congo Bridge outside Nkelekethe Village on the R408 between Willowvale and Butterworth.

Nine people miraculously survived the accident.

The Eastern Cape Transport Department says a memorial service will be held for the victims on Thursday.

The Department's Ncedo Kumbaca says the probe into the cause of the accident is already underway.

He says another memorial service for the 10 people who died in an accident on the R61 between Cradock and Graaff Reinet on Saturday will take place on Friday.
