The Department of Seafisheries has appealed to the public, particularly in coastal areas, to be on the alert for incidents of poaching.
Department spokesperson, Lionel Adendorf, says they want residents and tourists to coastal towns and cities to help their campaign to curb the illegal and irresponsible exploitation of our marine resources.
He says the highest incidence of poaching of marine resources is recorded between October and December.
Adendorf says in October and November this year alone, around 16 tons of perlermoen were confiscated.
" If you find any suspicious fishing activity in the coastal city or town where you are at, please call the nearest police station or the nearest law enforcement agency so that we can deal with that incident immediately, because it is better for us to have the resources in the water then to take it out and that is why this campaign is so important" Adendorf said.
