Port Alfred cluster police have arrested 49 suspects - including 13 foreign nationals suspected of being in South Africa illegally.
The arrests, for various serious and less serious crimes, were made at the weekend and formed part of special and day-to-day operations by the Port Alfred Cluster Police.
Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula says the foreign nationals were arrested as part of Operation Pumba, which targeted the stolen property market.
Mjekula said among the arrests were those of four men at Endlovini informal settlement for the alleged gang-rape of a 23 year-old woman.
"I can confirm that all 4 suspects aged between 17 and 21 have been charged with rape. The process was still underway and they will appear in court soon" he said.
