The Northern Areas Education Forum in Port Elizabeth says it's still concerned that key issues, such as overcrowding in schools, have not been resolved ahead of the commencement of the new school year.
Forum Secretary, Richard Draai said some high schools have not received text books, and teachers are still receiving payment from schools, instead of the Department of Education.
He said although positive strides have been made over the past couple of months, the way education is currently viewed needs to change.
Draai said poor matric results are a direct consequence of poor quality education in primary schools.
"Matric does not start in matric, it starts in grade one where the basics should be correct. Quality education should be already in place so that academically the child can progress smoothly through school. So things need to change drastically on how we see education and it's about time. We cannot have year in and year out go over the same things and complain about the same issues affecting our children" he said.
Draai said the forum will meet with the Eastern Cape Portfolio Committee for Education tomorrow morning, to receive feedback on grievances presented last year.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle and his Executive Council are visiting Primary and High Schools across the Province this week as part of government's 2017 Back to school Campaign.
