Six school children appeared in the Alexandria Magistrates Court in the Eastern Cape on Thursday on charges of housebreaking and theft.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula says the children, aged between 11 and 12, face charges of vandalism following an incident at a local school this week.
He says a subsequent police investigation identified a total of 22 children aged between 9 and 12.
Mjekula says its alleged that the children trashed every classroom, broke windows and doors to gain access and defecated on the floor of the school hall.
He says stationery and toys were stolen and the children also allegedly broke into the tea room and helped themselves to tea and coffee.
Mjekula says the 22 learners are from local primary schools in the area and only one child is from the vandalised school.
The case was postponed until the 20th January for further investigation.
