Denosa issues warning on bogus nursing schools

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa has issued a warning to matriculants who want to pursue a career in nursing.

President, Simon Hhlungwani, says people applying to nursing colleges must first do their homework.

He says there are many institutions that are not registered, offering nursing training.

"We have observed many bogus nursing colleges in the country where you find a person who is just a taxi driver or a taxi owner, opening a college claiming to be legitimate"

Hlungwani says prospective nursing students should verify with the South African Nursing Council whether that institutions is in fact registered with it.

He says the information is also available on the Council's website.

"They must just be careful, otherwise they can be ripped off. They will pay a huge amount to study , just to realise their qualifications are not recognised by Denosa and therefore they cannot work within the country" he said.
