Scheduled medicine worth R13 million confiscated in Gqeberha

Supplied

Police in Gqeberha have seized scheduled medicine in Korsten to the value of R13 million.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says two suspects were arrested following the bust in Cork Street on Tuesday morning.

She says the suspects, aged 40 and 41 were arrested in a joint operation with SAPS, Customs and a representative from Spoor and Fisher patent attorneys.

Schedule two and five medicines, including Adcodol and Cobra-120 (tablets for erectile dysfunction) were seized.

Colonel Naidu says on the same premises they discovered cigarettes that did not have the appropriate branding and are therefore deemed to be illegal.

She says other cigarettes were also confiscated pending confirmation of payment applicable to import duties.

The cigarettes were valued at R1.6 million.

The two men will be charged for contravening the Medicines Control Act and the Customs and Excise Act.

They will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrates Court this week.
