Members of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality's joint operations committee say they're saddened by the continuing increase in coronavirus related deaths across the district.
Executive Mayor, Khunjuzwa Kekana, says 38 more deaths were reported in the last week bringing the total number of coved-19 deaths in the district up to 90.
She says the increase is of deep concern especially as the country is heading towards the peak period.
Kekana says it is however encouraging that the recovery rate in the district stands at 71%.
She says a total of 3 933 cases were recorded with only 1 063 active cases.
The Eastern Cape death toll is standing at 1 393.
Somerset East, Graaff-Reinet, Makhanda, Port Alfred, Kirkwood, Jeffrey's Bay, Kareedouw, Addo, Aberdeen, Steytlerville and Willowmore all fall under the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
