The SA Police Service in the Eastern Cape has issued a warning to residents of Sterkspruit and surrounds not to break the law during protests.
Police issued the warning after Monday's incidents in which residents threw stones and blockaded roads in a protest over demands to have their own municipality.
Provincial police spokesperson, brigadier Marinda Mills, says 37 people who were arrested will appear in court on Wednesday on charges of public violence.
She warned that police would not tolerate lawlessness and will act against people violating the law.
Business remained closed in Sterkspruit on Tuesday following the protests.
