SAPS wants maximum sentence for Frederick Gordon

The SA Police Service in Nelson Mandela Bay has welcomed the guilty verdict imposed on airforce flight sergeant, Frederick Gordon.

He was found guilty on two counts of rape, one of kidnapping and a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for the sustained attack on his wife Avril.

She was severely brutalised by Gordon between November 2010 and March 2011 before police rescued her from their flat in Forest Hill.

In welcoming the guilty verdict, police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, said it reconfirmed their belief in the justice system.

He also called for a tough sentence to be imposed on Gordon when sentencing proceedings get underway in September.

"When found guilty the perpetrator must receive the maximum allowed sentence that would send a clear message to all those that perform these specific crimes and also to ensure that we prioritise once again our commitment to investigate and bring the perpetrators to court for those who commit offences against the women and children in our society" he said,
