Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, has ordered a full probe be conducted into so-called 'after tears' funeral practices as well as a thorough investigation into the murder of a young boy in Port Elizabeth.
11- year-old Mbasa Dlamini was shot and killed following the weekend funeral service of a slain suspected gangster in a PE township.
Dlamini was shot on Saturday afternoon while watching the funeral proceedings for 28 -year-old Siyamthanda Ndema who was murdered at a tavern earlier this month.
Police Captain Andre Beetge said the funeral got underway on Saturday morning in Makhubalo street in Kwazakele and ended just before 13h30 at a cemetery in Motherwell.
The mourners then returned to Makhubalo street where people gathered in the street to watch the celebration of the life of fallen gangsters.
These festivities are known in the community as after tears parties and include the illegal spinning of motor vehicles and firing of guns.
Maor General Rabie said people do not even run away when shots are fired and unfortunately, 11- year-old Mbaza Dlamini died in the process. -
