A 45-year-old man appeared in the East London Magistrate court on Monday on a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, said Lindile Mhlati, was arrested on Saturday at his farm in Mooiplaas in a joint operation by the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team, and the K9 unit.
She said his arrest was a sequel to an ongoing investigation related to the foiled robbery of a well-known East London butchery last July.
Feni said at the time five suspects were arrested shortly after the foiled robbery attempt while three vehicles which were allegedly used by the accused were seized during August 2018.
"A joint operation by the Hawks, the Vehicle Identification Section, and Public Order Policing units revealed that the Golf, the Ford Fiesta, and a Ford Ranger were all stolen and hijacked in Gauteng," she said.
All six suspects are due back in court on 23 January.
Al the five suspects are still in custody. The next court appearance will be on the 23rd of January 2019.
