Police divers have recovered the body of a man who drowned in the Bridle Drift Dam at East London.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Hazel Mqala, said that East London police divers and K9 Search and Rescue members attended to the scene.
“The 29-year-old male and his three friends were fishing and removing fish from a net when a homemade boat capsized and he fell into the water,” said Mqala.
She said the man could not swim.
Mqala said an initial search had proved fruitless but she said police divers returned on Friday and searched a different area.
“After a 40-minute underwater search the body of the victim was recovered at a depth of 6 meters,” Mqala said.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
