SANDF soldiers still missing at sea

The South African National Defence Force has confirmed that two soldiers, who went missing at sea off the Eastern Cape coast more than a week ago, are still missing.

The two Defence Force members went missing, while off-duty and swimming at Second Beach in Port St Johns on April 16.

It is believed they got into trouble when sea conditions changed drastically.

The SANDF identified the two as 48-year old Staff Sergeant Mcedisi Mandyu of Worcester and who was stationed at the SA Army Infantry School in Oudtshoorn, and 27-year old Private Themba Sithole of Rustenburg who worked at 1 Parachute Battalion in Bloemfontein.

SANDF spokesperson Brigadier-General Xolani Mabanga said the members had not yet been located and were still declared missing at sea, adding that the search and rescue mission was still active.
