Teachers union Sadtu in the Eastern Cape has renewed its commitment to improving education in the province.
This follows a recent education indaba in East London and the signing of an agreement between trade unions and the Eastern Cape government to deal collectively with the crisis in education.
Sadtu said in a statement that it had established a working group that will come up with concrete, time-bound plans to realise the commitments made at the education indaba.
Provincial deputy secretary, Nolitha Mboniswa, says the union has also committed to improving the 2012 matric results by at least 5% over and above last year's 58% pass rate.
