The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber says the official opening of the Port of Ngqura on Friday is a positive signal of government's commitment to the Eastern Cape.
Chamber CEO, Kevin Hustler, says the presidential "stamp of approval" on the new port follows his visit to the city in September last year to engage with the auto industry.
He says it also follows last month's State of the Nation address and the Budget, which recognised the economic importance of the province and committed to key infrastructure development including extension of the Port of Ngqura.
The Port has been under construction for the last 12 years and has been integrated with the Coega Industrial Development Zone.
It is of major strategic importance to the country.
