SA swimming boss says no one to blame for PE pool debacle

Swimming South Africa says its no one can be blamed for the equipment failure that led to the postponement of Tuesday's SA National Swimming Championships in Port Elizabeth.

A burst water pump resulted in the Newton Park Swimming Pool turning a murky green and the eventual decision by officials to call off the event until Wednesday.

The CEO of Swimming South African, Shaun Adriaanse, says the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been working around the clock to fix the situation.

He told Algoa FM News/Sport that no one can be blamed for the situation.

"There is this perception that it is someones fault, the municipality, or EP Acquatics or Simming SA, but it is nobody's fault. There is a piece of equipment at fault and the Municipality immediately dealt with it and they have been working all out to remedy the situation. So we will give them enough time to make sure the water quality is in order" he said.

Meanwhile, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it is confident that the Newton Park Swimming Pool will be ready for the Championships by Wednesday morning.

According to a statement "municipal pool staff will be working overnight to deliver a clean and world standard water sport facility."

"The Municipality regrets this unforeseen incident and the impact it has had on the Championships and swimmers."
