South Africa's first National Wool Week will be held at Sandton City in Johannesburg this week.
Cape Wools, spokesperson, Lizelle Delport, says the expo, which starts on Tuesday, will showcase wool as a modern fibre with a wide range of uses.
She says interaction and education will feature strongly at Wool Week, as there is a strong need for education on the versatile fibre.
"During wool week we will exhibit in Sandton City with various Merino wool products and wool information on show to educate and encourage people to learn more about wool and the industry, it has indeed moved up in the fashion and interior design industries. As SA is a major wool export country and a major contributor to the South African economy,"Delport said.
The wool industry is one of the country's largest contributors to foreign currency, earning in excess of R2.5b annually, and more than 90% of South Africa's 15-million kilograms of wool produced annually is exported.
