At least 17 people were killed in car accidents on the country's roads over the weekend.
Seven people were killed in three seperate accidents in the Eastern Cape on Friday and Saturday.
Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says two men and three women were killed in a head-on collision between a taxi and a SUV on the N-2 near Kokstad on Saturday.
He says the driver of a Toyota Fortuner died in hospital, after the vehicle overturned near Dutywa on Friday evening, while one person was killed on the R-58 between Barkley-East and Elliot on Friday, when a Toyota Quantum from Gauteng overturned.
In the Free State, four people were killed and 18 others were injured in a collision between a truck and a minibus taxi on the N1 close to the Brandfort off-ramp, about 20 km from Bloemfontein on Saturday evening
ER24 says two people in the taxi were ejected from the vehicle, and died at the scene.
One person sustained critical injuries.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, and police are investigating.
And near Modimolle in Limpopo, police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, after six people were killed and two injured in a head-on collision on the N1 on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe says it is alleged that a bus lost control due to a mechanical fault, causing it to zig-zag over the road.
He says two cars, travelling in opposite directions, tried to avoid colliding with it, but instead, collided head-on with each other, killing six people instantly.
The two seriously injured people were stabilsed at the scene and rushed to hospital.
