Western Cape police arrested two men, including a Russian national, after cocaine valued at R252 million was seized during an operation on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Christopher Spies, said local police acted on information about suspicious activity at the local harbour early in the evening.
He said while on the way there, SAPS members spotted a Toyota Pajero, with a rubber duck on the trailer, which sped off leading to a chase.
Spies said police brought the vehicle to a halt on Jongersfontein Road where the suspects jumped out and fled.
They were later arrested at a “local accommodation establishment”.
Spies said upon searching the rubber duck police found 14 bags containing 400 “bricks” of cocaine.
The suspects, a 48-year-old man from Gauteng and a 39-year-old Russian national, face a charge of dealing in drugs each and will appear in court once charged.
Spies said the case has been transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) for further investigation.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, commended the swift action of Still Bay SAPS.
