Royal visit in Grahamstown

Grahamstown will be rolling out the red carpet next week for a visit by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

He will be accompanied by his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, to attend the 30th anniversary celebrations of The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment Trust.

The President's Award for Youth Empowerment is a registered non-profit organisation, which has been operating in South Africa since 1983 and is affiliated to The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which operates in over 140 countries.

The Royals will be attending several events in Grahamstown next Wednesday, including a Gold Award Ceremony at St Andrew’s College where between 40 and 50 Gold Awards will be presented to Eastern Cape Award participants.

The Countess of Wessex will meet Award participants from Victoria Girls High School and other schools in Grahamstown, hearing about the projects that they have been involved in whilst doing the Award Programme.

The Royal pair are expected to spend two days in the Eastern Cape before travelling to Cape Town.
