A robbery suspect died in an East London hospital after he was wounded by a bullet fired by his alleged accomplice.
The drama unfolded on the N2 near the Nahoon Dam outside the city on Friday afternoon when an armed gang opened fire on a construction manager paying employees on the side of the road.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi, said it is alleged that “during the shooting one of the robbers was hit by a shot from his accomplice”.
He said the man was taken to hospital where he died.
“The manager and his passenger were also rushed to a hospital and are in a stable condition,” Mbi said.
Police are advising businesses owners to conduct salary payments in secure environments.
