A rifle, stolen in Bethelsdorp 15-years ago was recovered by Port Elizabeth police on Monday.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members followed up on information about two men en route to NU29 in Motherwell where they were about to drop off a firearm.
She says police spotted the suspects carrying an object, wrapped in a blanket in Tyiniar Street.
The suspects dropped the object and fled the scene when they suspected that they were followed.
Naidu says police opened the blanket and found a rifle with a scope which was stolen in 2006.
She says this is the second stolen rife recovered by police in just a few days.
On Saturday, police followed up on information about a vehicle transporting a firearm in the Korsten area.
Colonel Naidu says the driver of the suspected vehicle was using it as an e-hailing service but his three passengers had a rifle which was stolen in Somerset East in October last year.
