Rhodes University will be closed until Monday.
The administration said that this was in recognition of in recognition of the trauma and strain that students and staff have experienced over the past two days during anti-rape protest.
Rhodes said that all formal teaching has been suspended but the library, the law library as well as research labs will remain open. Department rendering critical support services will also be open.
The University obtained a wide-ranging interdict on Wednesday preventing students from engaging in unlawful activities.
Five students also appeared in court after being arrested during the anti-rape protest.
The were released on warning and will be back in court again in July.
