Drug bust 'somewhere' in Karoo


Western Cape police have made a huge drugs bust, worth more than 2 and a half million rand,  in the Karoo. 

Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut says police officer stopped a light delivery van for a routine inspection in the early hours of Wednesday morning and discovered 1 kilogramme of cocaine hidden in a false compartment in the undercarriage.

Further inspection led to another kilogramme of cocaine and 5.2 kilogrammes of Tik being found in the bodywork of the vehicle in compartments under the canopy.

Traut says the total street value of the drugs is estimated at R2.6 million.

The exact location of the bust in the Karoo is not being revealed due to the sensitivity of the investigation. 

The suspect, a 39 year old Nigerian national, is being held in custody and will appear in court soon.
