Rhodes University says the presence of a man that was found dead at a residence on Saturday, will be investigated.
The man's body was found alongside a 21-year-old woman's body in a room at Cullen Bowles male residence.
University spokesperson, Zamuxolo Matiwana says the woman was a student from Rosa Parks residence.
He says the a man was not a Rhodes student, and his presence at the institution is being investigated.
Eastern Cape's police said the man's body was found with a bullet wound to the head. They suspect the man shot himself.
No visible injuries were found on the woman's body.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula said a post mortem would be conducted to determine the cause of her death.
Meanwhile, the university's dean of students, Vivian de Klerk posted on her Facebook page that the student's name was Amanda Tweyi.
She was in her second year of a Bachelor of Science degree and was from King Williamstown.
Lt. Mjekula said the man was also believed to be from King Williamstown.
The university said in a statement it would release updates related to the deaths as they were made available by the police.
