Reward on offer for Eastern Cape rhino poaching

The Wilderness Foundation has expressed its shock and frustration at the recent poaching of 5 white rhino and the wounding of a 6th rhino in two separate incidents at the Tyityaba Private Game reserve outside East London.

The Foundation's Conservation Programme Director Matthew Norval says they're offering a R50 000 reward for information leading to the successful arrest of those responsible for the Tyityaba-tragedy or any other rhino poaching in the Eastern Cape region.

Norval says they'll also welcome information that will prevent further poaching incidents from taking place.

"The tragedy is that most of the activities that take place around rhino poaching are re-active, so the animals are already dead. What we want to do is try and be pro-active and get information that's going to lead to safe keeping, to prevent incidents from taking place. If people have information of people that are planning attacks or planning poaching activities we would also like to hear from them so we can try and prevent that." says Norval.

Anyone with information can contact the wildlife crime and anti-poaching tip-off Line. The number is 078 696 9494.
