Rescue workers find wreckage of missing aircraft

Authorities have found the wreckage of the light aeroplane which disappeared on Wednesday afternoon near East London while on a test flight.

This was confirmed to Algoa FM News by the Chief of the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre, Santjie White.

She told Algoa FM News that all the statutory organisations were involved in the search, with additional assistance from Border Aviation.

White said a large area was searched on Thursday but the only known fact was that the pilot was taking the brand new Savannah plane from the factory on a test flight.

She says pilots normally don't go very far from the base, which is why most of the search was centralised around the coast and previous test flights.

White says on Friday morning it was decided to rather concentrate on a ground search and the areas they all knew and were not happy with being searched.

She says this is due to the fact that a wreckage can often not be seen from the sky.

The bodies of the two male occupants of the plane were found in the wreckage this morning on Brown's Farm near Kei Mouth.

The names of the victims have not yet, formally been released by SAPS.
