The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says police are investigating after receiving a report from fishermen of a suspected body of a man floating off-shore near to Van Stadens River Mouth.

Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says a scuba diving flipper was recovered from the shoreline nearby, but it is not known if it's related to this case.

He says NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew assisted the police and K9 Search and Rescue on Sunday afternoon at the scene between Van Stadens and the Gamtoos River Mouth.

Lambinon says despite an extensive search no sign of a body was located and there remains no report of anyone missing or overdue that may be linked to this case.

Anyone with information that may be related to this case should call Police 10111 or NSRI Emergency Operations Centre 0870949774.
