Gqeberha police are investigating a case of murder and opened an inquest docket after a woman was severely assaulted and a man apparently committed suicide in Joe Slovo on Saturday.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says it is alleged that the two had an argument, during which the man attacked the woman with a hammer.
She sustained serious head injuries and died at the scene.
Janse van Rensburg says the man then hanged himself, and a suicide note was found.
She says he was identified as 32-year-old Xolisa Gcwekana.
Anyone who can assist in identifying the deceased woman is asked to contact the nearest police station.
