Five juvenile penguins that underwent rehabilitation at the African Penguin Rescue Centre in Port Elizabeth, have been released back into the ocean.
Samrec's Libby Sharwood says the birds had been taken in because they were starving.
She says there are around 29 penguins that are being rehabilitated at the Centre at the moment.
Sharwood says those penguins that were soiled with oil from the vessel Kiani Satu, are being rehabilitated at St Francis Bay.
Meanwhile, she says the release of the 5 penguins earlier on Thursday morning at Cape Recife went off smoothly.
"We have been hoping to release these little guys for a bout 3 weeks now but each time we had lousy weather so this morning we saw the weather was perfect and took a chance" Sharwood said.
