The Eastern Cape, together with Limpopo, was the weakest of the nine provinces in financial management.
That's according to the Management Performance Assessments of National and Provincial Departments released on Wednesday.
Describing the performance of the Eastern Cape as of concern, the report says that 69% of departmental scores reflected non-compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements for financial management.
The report says the Eastern Cape was the worst performing province with respect to governance and accountability, with only 20% of provincial government departments fully compliant with the legal prescripts.
