A 39-year-old East London man who was arrested last year by the Hawks for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act has been sentenced in the city's Regional Court to 36 months Correctional Supervision.
Donovan Amos entered into a plea agreement with the state following his arrest last June for, among other things, illegally operating a fish processing plant, selling fish without a permit and exceeding the legal bag limit.
Amos, who is under house arrest, was also ordered by Judge Deon Rossouw to perform 16 hours of community service at the East London aquarium as part his sentence.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, says they are pleased with the sentence.
She reminded recreational fishermen that they were not allowed to sell fish.
Those who are caught will be arrested and prosecuted.
